Being terminated (PK) can be the most traumatic professional experience for a worker. In any circumstances, being a victim of layoffs is very uncomfortable. So we must anticipate in order to survive until we get a new job. Here are a number of things you can do:
- Take a break
If you have financial freedom, there’s nothing wrong with taking a short break. Think of this break as a short vacation that you can use to think and reflect. Don’t make big decisions in the first few days after being laid off, and don’t rush back into the job market the day after you receive the news of the layoff.
- Do a financial assessment
This is an important phase after being laid off. Do an assessment of your personal financial condition to find out how much your regular expenses are a month and how long you can survive. If you have dependents, also involve your partner or even parents when you are in this phase.
- Pay attention to expenses
Expenditures such as electricity, water, fuel, and credit bills are classified as non-fixed expenses. Sometimes it can increase or vice versa. It is very important to control expenses, considering you are more often at home when you have not got a new job.
- Surround yourself with positive things
‘Status’ as a victim of layoffs can be a burden for some people. And trying to find new job opportunities can be exhausting and stressful. Try to surround yourself with positive people and environments or with those that keep you motivated and moving forward.
- Leveraging connections to find new jobs
When you are ready to work again, use your connections to find a new job. Do not hesitate to let them know that you are looking for a job. Also use LinkedIn and other social sites to find work and learn more about your target company. And make sure you create a resume and cover letter for the position you are applying for.
