Japan will reduce Covid-19 border controls and return to allowing foreign tourists into their territory. After more than two years of implementing strict rules for the arrival of foreign nationals (foreigners). The Nikkei reports that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced that their country will allow foreign tourists to enter Japan without a visa from October 11, 2022.

However, tourists must show that they have received three doses of the vaccine and submit a negative Covid-19 test result.

“We will remove limits on the number of people entering the country, and will continue to accept individual travel and visa-free travel.” Kishida said.

Previously, Japan has allowed tourists to enter the country since last June, and the tourists who come to Japan must be part of a tour group and must meet Japan visa requirements. Japan only allows tour or travel agent system for all tourists, because in an effort to control the spread of Covid-19.

The Japanese government hopes the tourism sector gets a boost following the strength of the yen which has weakened against the US dollar for 24 years. Prior to the pandemic, Japan received a record 31.8 million visitors in 2019, making it one of the most popular destinations in Asia.
