Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, especially Malaysia and Indonesia, are countries where the majority of the population is Muslim. Interestingly, mosques in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore have their own uniqueness that is difficult to find in mosques in other Asian countries, even in Saudi Arabia. Let’s take a peek at their uniqueness!
- Shoe Storage
Mosques in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia usually provide shoe storage. Muslims who come to the mosque can leave their shoes/sandals as well as donate to the guards from shoe storage.
- Charity Box
You will find mosques that provide charity boxes in various forms. The goal is that you can give charity through the charity box, where later the charity will be distributed by the mosque to people who ‘need’.
- Street Vendors
The latter, perhaps rarely found in other Muslim-populated countries including Saudi Arabia. There are traders who sell in the courtyard of the mosque. Starting from food, drinks, clothes, pants, to prayer equipment.
How unique are the mosques in these ‘neighboring’ countries!
