Mosques are sacred places for Muslims all over the world. No wonder, if the mosque is also called the ‘House of Allah’. Because various series of Islamic religious worship are all carried out in mosques. Starting from reading the Koran, gathering, giving charity, studying, listening to studies, and praying, everything can be done at the mosque.
Talk about praying ‘salat’ which is the obligatory of every Muslim. Generally, when in the mosque, prayers are held in congregation or in groups. There will be ‘imam’ and ‘makmum’ in its implementation. Not all prayers are performed ‘together’, because there are prayers that are performed individually, such as sunnah prayers or being ‘masbuk’.
Usually at the mosque the Muslims come at different times, which causes traffic between worshipers to pass through the ‘shaf’ of prayer’. This is where the importance of using ‘Sutrah’ as a prayer barrier so that it will not interfere with prayers between Muslims.
‘Sutrah’ or the barrier itself has been practiced since the time of the Prophet Muhammad, according to the hadith he conveyed. Even in the hadith, Rasulullah SAW said that people who step over people who are praying are actually the same as Satan.
From Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri RA, Rasulullah SAW said, “If any of you prays by placing a sutrah (boundary) that limits it from people, then if someone wants to pass in front of him, then he should prevent it. If what is prevented is still forcing, prevent it even harder, because he is arrogant (devil’s nature) “. (HR. Bukhari, No. 509 & HR. Muslim, No. 505).
So the ‘Sutrah’ in the mosque is very important for us to use, if the prayer rows that we carry out will be passed by other worshipers.
