Buckingham Palace released the announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday (8/9/2022) local time. The Queen of England died at the age of 96 after failing health in the past two years.
Elizabeth is noted to be the longest-serving queen to lead an empire in world history. His position surpassed Louis XIV, King of France who ruled for 72 years.
Behind her long age and graceful figure, it turns out that the queen has many interesting facts that many people don’t know.
- When she married Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947, the queen, who was still a princess at the time, wore a wedding gown purchased with a coupon. According to the New York Post, this was done because of the prolonged financial crisis in the UK.
- In her old age, the Queen still likes to drive her favorite Jaguar or Range Rover. Behind his hobby, there is an interesting fact. Queen Elizabeth II has never had a driver’s license. In fact, according to Cosmopolitan, the monarch is the only person in Britain who doesn’t need to have a driver’s license to drive on public roads.
- The Queen has her own personal ATM. Although the Queen rarely needs cash, she does have a personal ATM in the basement of Buckingham Palace. This ATM is for members of the Royal Family only. Queen also turns out to have a cake shop, named Greggs. Through the British Empire, the Queen has fourteen retail garden areas and three shopping centers, one of which is the Gallagher Retail Park in Cheltenham, home to Greggs’ pastry shop.
- Prior to taking the throne from her father, Princess Elizabeth had volunteered as a truck driver and mechanic during World War II. This decision made her the first female member of the royal family to serve in the military.
- Queen Elizabeth loves corgis. Not many know, she has more than 30 types of dogs in her life. In fact, at one time, she owned as many as nine dogs. Most of Her Majesty’s corgis were descended from her first corgi, Susan, which was given to her on her eighteenth birthday in 1944. Some of her favorite corgis were named Candy, Lissy and Monty.
