‘Sophistication’ of The Royal Malaysian Navy’s Fleet

On August 29, 2022 – September 3, 2022, The Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) and the Indonesian National Army (TNI) held a joint training located in Java Sea, Indonesia. The purpose of holding joint training, is to improve bilateral relations between the two Navies, to test the procedures in carrying out tasks, improving tactical and technique capabilities in combat operations procedures.

In this joint training, TLDM was led by the Commander of Western Fleet, Vice Admiral Datuk Abu Bakar Mohd Ajis. TLDM disembarked 2 warships, namely KD Sri Indera Sakti-1503 and KD Lekiu-30 and Super Lynx Helicopters.

KD Sri Indera Sakti-1503

KD Sri Indera Sakti-1503 – utusanborneo

The warship, which was sent to Somali in 2008 to fight pirates, is a ship made by a German manufacturer, Bremen Vulkan. Having a displacement of 4,300 tons, KD Sri Indera-Sakti can travel speeds of up to 31.1 km/h. KD Sri Indera-Sakti can carry 600 personnel, has an area to transport cargo loads of 1,000 m³, 10 x 20 feet containers and a cargo area for war vehicles covering an area of 680 m². In addition, KD Sri Indera-Sakti, has an helipad for 1 medium-sized helicoper.

The ship, which was built at the Shipyard, Yarrow, Scotland, is a Frigate type ship owned by TLDM. Having a length of 106 m, the ship that took part in the search for AirAsia QZ8501 is an advanced warship. It is equipped with a radar for mapping targets, and also has an advanced navigation radar. This Frigate-type ship is equipped with weapons that can bring down the enemy in an instant, including canon multi-purpose, missile launcher, DSM30 canon, anti-missile, 8 MM40 launchers and A244S torpedoes.

This combat helicopter made by AgustaWestland in Italy, is one of the advanced helicopter fighters. In addition to being used by TLDM, Super Lynx is also used by the British Army, French Navy, and German Navy. Super Lynx helicopters have a full arsenal, ranging from Sea Skua (air missiles) that can destroy patrol boats, two torpedoes, and a underwater explosions. In addition, the Super Lynx is also used to carry out piracy rescue missions at sea that can carry heavy machine guns.
