Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob proposed and wanted to make Bahasa Melayu as the 2nd official Language after English in ASEAN. The statement was followed in a meeting with ASEAN nation member.
As we all know, that Bahasa Melayu is already spoken in several ASEAN countries. Bahasa Melayu is spoken in neighboring countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, in the south of Thailand, the south of the Philippines and a small part in Cambodia.

It has become a polemic since countries in the ASEAN Region have thousands of Languages and dialects. Thus, proposal of Bahasa Melayu to become the 2nd official language in ASEAN will have a long way to go, even the worst part of it can be rejected by countries in the ASEAN Region.
This means that although the decision on Bahasa Melayu proposal can later be rejected, at least the PM provides a way for ASEAN to reopen the ASEAN charter as reference for more detailed discussion in order to protect the large number of Languages in ASEAN Region.
